Trans Nzoia county has been known for long as a county with the highest maize production together with Western region. Kenya has been depending on to them for enough supply of maize for many years.

However, some Farmers now from Trans nzoia county have diverted their attention to perishable foods' production after several of them find out that some perishable goods are more profitable than maize. Examples of such goods include french beans, snow peas and summer wood. These crops have been preferred for reasons such that it takes short time to mature, unlike maize which took up to six months before harvesting.

On the other hand, there is ready market across the world for these crops and also the price for the goods are so appreciated.
Speaking with some of the farmers on 8th May this year, they urged other farmers to participate in this farming as they said it's more profitable than maize. Some of them said that they have been able to pay school fees for their children, access food, buy land among others.
