Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay County officially Opened up.
On Friday 30th June 2023, Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and Homabay governor Gladys Wanga have officially opened the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay County. The stadium, which has been under construction for the past two years, is set to be a game-changer for sports development in the region.
The opening ceremony has been attended by a host of dignitaries, including Dr Ida Odinga and other local leaders. The event is marked by a series of activities, including a football match between local teams and a cultural performance by local artists.
In his speech, Raila Odinga has expressed his gratitude to the people of Homabay County for their unwavering support over the years. He noted that the stadium is a testament to the county's commitment to sports development and would provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents.
The stadium, which has a capacity of 20,000, boasts of modern facilities, including a FIFA-standard football pitch, an athletics track, and a gymnasium. It is expected to host local and national sporting events, including football, athletics, and rugby.
Governor Gladys Wanga, on her part, noted that the stadium would not only promote sports development but also boost the local economy. She urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the facility and strive to excel in their chosen sports.
