Mumias East sub_county is found in Kakamega County of Western region of Kenya. Road transport is the major form of transport in the entire county and sub_county. Most roads are murram constructed, thus during rain season most appear to be impassable.
Elwasambi_Shitoto road is among the most cherished roads in Mumias East sub_county. It's being used by more than 1000 residents in the area, more of them being learners and workers. Following the heavy rains that were experienced the last night, the cherished Shitoto_Lwasambi road was found at dawn broken into two, leaving a deep hole between the road. Residents were shocked about it, but they were left helpless. Learners and workers are the most affected since they are forced to go for long distance.
Women who uses the same road are also at higher risks since they are forced to carry their babies on the back as they look for a way to reach their destinations using the broken road. The aged are not also left behind in suffering when crossing the broken road. They are forced to slide down the stream which was under the road to enable them to reach their destinations.
However, the residents are encouraged to be patient since the plan of reconstructing the road is put in place. Some have said are in fear of their young ones who may fall in the deep hole. The bodaboda users are also told to halt using the road since it's prone to accidents which may lead to loss of life. The village elder of the area has urged the forces involved to look for a skilled engineer in reconstructing the road to avoid such an occurrence next time.
