Tea is one of the profitable cash crop in many parts of Kenya. For more than twenty years now, the crop has expressed great impact to those who have manipulated a thousand reasons for beating poverty in both the society and their families.
In the forty-seven counties across Kenya, Narok county is one of the counties that have been attracted to the light of tea from other counties. In Kilgoris constituency, Mara tea factory is the backbone factory of tea processing in the area. The factory has created employment opportunities to the people of the area. The major species of tea grown is green tea that is usually sold at the medium price.
For years, green tea has remained to be the main species across Kenya. However. Farmers have showed concerns that at times they do encounter challenges concerning the purchase of tea. Another tea spices that have been reformed is purple tea. The tea is believed to have high grant since its price at export is of profit.
The processing of this type of tea is similar so that of green tea. At times, adverse weather conditions such as drought and hailstones do result in loss in the quality and the quantity of the tea. Something that they don't control easily. Farmers who have been privileged to plant this type of crop have made recommendations that the government should ensure fair sale of fertilizers and equal distribution when availed.
